Braking Question

Braking Question
I have started to notice as I brake (mostly after it has rained and roads are drying out) that just before I stop I hear my brakes squeak (doesnt bother me) but its not constant... I keep steady pressure and you hear squeak, then pause (without any braking, like brakepads arent touching) then a squeak again... repeat process until I stop...
any ideas?

I have the same noise. I've seen a few threads on it, seems like a common problem. Something to do with the OEM brake pads. As long as you check to make sure that you haven't warn down your pads, it shouldn't really be a problem.
You can change pads to eliminate the noise (I'm sure others will have some suggestions on which pads to choose).

I have that noise, too... I don't think of it as a problem though.. the brakes/pads are fine (no mechanical issues)... it's just noise... live with it until your first brake pad change, then choose a non-OEM pad and your noise will most likely go away...
Hey while we are on the subject of brakes... my 03 with 40,000 miles is on its original set of OEM pads. I have a few, maybe 4 mm of pad left (I think they start out with 13 mm?) on each.
I also noticed that the pads have worn away some of the rotor, because there is a slight "lip" formed on the outermost edge of each rotor where the pads do not touch it, therefore they haven't worn away any of the rotor surface. When I replace the pads (probably around 50K at this rate...I'm a "light footed" braker, I guess), should I also put on a new set of rotors all around?
Rock on,

Brake Noise
The cheap and easy possible solution would be to re-bed in the pads. A procedure can be found here:

Other solutions include a set of pads that are known for the low noise. But I will warn you brakes are always a compromise and so in order to gain low noise, more often then not you have to give up some performance.
