plus sizing tires
#1
Hello all,
I'm trying to decide yeah or nay ...to plus 0 sizing...
I'm trying to determine whether or not the effects are truly detrimental or a compromise as all things seems to be
Here are the positives....as I've researched this so far.
Increased Steering Response
Improved Dry Handling
Enhanced Cornering Ability
Aggressive Good Looks
What are the negatives????
speedometer reading is less that actual speed?????
gear ratio is affected?????
please add......
This is plus 0 sizing that I intend to ...go forward with...
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
from:205/45-17 3.6in 12.1in 24.3in 76.2in 831 0.0%
to: 215/40-17 3.4in 11.9in 23.8in 74.7in 848 -2.0%
Any help would be appreciated...
Peace,
D

Hi Dennis,
I think I can help you out here. Did you get my other note? First of all, the actual tire diameters can vary from the calculations. Your calculations are correct, but in a given Yokohama tire the diameter may vary from a Michelin tire in the exact same size. Call The Tire Rack and ask a salesman for the actual diameters of some 215/40 ZR 17 tires and compare them to the actual diameters of your 205/45 17s.
In the same diameter, lower profiles give a bit harsher ride and less rim protection than higher profiles in the same wheel and tire diameters. The benefits you listed are correct. If diameters are close speedo and gearing will be OK.

Hello Sol,
We seem to be following each other in the forums we visit.
I just responded to your post re: helix
Thanks for your input...again
I will indeed contact Dan from Tirerack and try to come up w/ a rim/tire combo that works.
I currently drive in the Goodyear Eagles RSA (all seasons), and have ROH Adreneline 17" rims. I'm not absolutely certain of the offset but 40 comes to mind. I will check it out.
I like the Toyo T1S's but unfortunately they do not come in the oem size of 205/45-17.
The Yoko's AVS ES 100 do come in that oem size but I'm not totally sold on them yet.
Thanks again for your input...
I invite you to visit the chat room when time permits....
We discuss all things from all...perspectives...
