17 x 7.5 ET40 - ideal tire size?

Id like to go 215/45/17, but i fear the all to common rubbin'. That said, im handy with a dremel :-)

Im not overly concerned right now at stock height, but will likely be dropping it an inch or so in the not too distant future. Likely H-Sports.

What would the mighty NAM members say is the best best size wise.

no rubbing with 215/40/17 + H-sports..

I'd also like to know how they'll do with 215/45s

17x7 ET40 running 205/45/17s with Eibachs.

I do get slight rubbing on the rear over firm-ish bumps or with a load up. It sounds a lot worse than it is, on close inspection with the tyre the area that is rubbing is very minimal. So much so, that I'm not concerned by it.

Mind, I'm currently running Michelin Pilot Precedas which have a very square sidewall design. My previous tyres were Goodyear Revspecs and the sidewall design was much rounder. Sounds odd I guess, but I think this difference would almost be enough to stop the rubbing. But seeing as I didn't have them on the car with the Eibachs I can't say for sure.

215/40/17 with 37 offset and h-sports, and i am always rubbing in the back. But i think it has calmed down latley, maybe the outside of tire got sanded enough. It rubbed on the outside rears.

I'm running 17x7.5 SSR Comps w/ 215/40/17 Kumho MX

I personally see no reason to go to a 45 series tire. I didn't even consider it (despite all the people screaming "load rating" at me). Running H&R springs with no issues.

There's plenty of Aussies running 215/40/17s with the correct load rating specs. I would have thought 215/40 was the way to go anyway?

Yes.. RT615s replaced the popular falken azenis rt215s with improved wet traction.. On dry pavement they are pretty much one of the stickiest street tires.

Rubbing Tires

For what it's worth, I am running Team Dynamic Pro Race 1 Racing Wheels 7.0 X 17 (Black) with Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position UNI-T AQ11 205/50ZR17 89V and I am getting rear tire rubbing

what offset is that wheel again?

205/50/17 is kinda meaty too... and S03's come in huge widths much bigger
than their spec 205/50 is probably like 225-230mm width when you actually
measure it.

205/50/17 Tires

Wheels:

I will really have to check to verify the offset, but the offset range is e+35 to e+50 with a wheel weight of 7.3 Kg at max. offset.

The tires:

Diameter: 25.1
Overall sectional width: 8.4
tread width: 7.6
Static load radius: 11.6
tire wt: 24

They are pretty "beefy".

i tried 205/50-17 on 42mm offset just before winter started, and got too much rubbing, it literally rubbed at any bumps even with just me on board.. changing the camber to now 2.5 degrees helped a tiny bit, not enough though, so i was forced to trade with my friend's 215/45 setup with half its tread worn with crappier wheels for my newer wheels on brand new tires.... with no money back!

cant really see the back, but here is what it looked like

worse still......... rubbing is still there when i go over HUGE bumps with a rear passenger!

Tire Rub

I really don't get much rubbing unless I hit some bumps on rough roads. On smooth roads it never seems to bother me. Here is a photo from the back. I am getting ready for SF Giants game:

I just layed the sticker on the back for the photo. It's magnetic so it would normally go on the doors.

The ONLY sticker I have is my REME (Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts) which is blue and is placed right at the top of the rear window.

I was talking about removing the rear "cooper S" badge.
There was a thread about it not too long ago.
