Tire loosing pressure at balancing weight on holies

I purchased a set of 7 holies a few weeks ago for winter driving. It finally snowed here in Chicago this weekend so I mounted them Saturday morning. They all had about 10 psi so before mounting them I inflated each to 30 psi.

Upon rolling out of the garage with all the windows down, I heard the distinct noise of air release coming from one of the corners. With my wife's help we pinpointed the spot to exactly where the balancing weight is mounted to the rim. On every revolution, when the weight is at the 6 o'clock spot, air rushes out. When the weight is not directly at the 6 o'clock spot, there is no air loss.

Does any one have any suggestions? Is this common?

Thanks.

Maybe there is a nail at that same point along the tire. Look on the image, what is that bright spot on the tread???

retroom - I was hoping it was a nail - would have been easier to explain. The spot turned out to be a scrap of paper.

I updated the picture.

The clip may have cut the tire also.

Thanks for the tips everyone

From what I understand, the weights on the holies are the factory weights.

I called my MINI dealer and the SA suggested I drive around the block a couple times to see if the bead reseated. He's seen this a couple of times.

So when I returned home tonight I inflated the tire to 35 and took it around the block once. I then let the car sit with the weight at the 6 o'clock and left it. I returned one hour later and the tire pressure was the same - no air loss.

I'll check in the morning. But maybe the problem is over. I suppose, I'll take it to a tire shop and ask them to balance the tires with tape weighs anyways. I'd rather be safe then sorry!!
