16x8 up front, 16x7 in the back?

I got a very good chance to pick up some VOLK racing wheels, however, seeing they came off of a 240SX, i got a bit of a problem and a few quesitons

they are going to be my track wheels, so im not too picky about appearance, here's the spec on them

16X7 +35 4X100
16X8 +34 4X100
True 3 peice wheels
1 inch dish on the front
2inch dish on teh rear

is it going to be alright if i run this on my lowered mcs? also, should i put the 8 inch wheel up front and 7 inch wheel in the back?

o sorry, im mounting kumho ecsta V710 215/40-16 on them

Track wheels ... do it.

I think 240s are 4x144.3 bolt pattern, but if these are 4x100 as well then do it. Run the same size tires on both and use the wider wheels in the front.

I've seen plenty of Japanese time attack front wheel drive cars and all-wheel drive use a similar setup to help reduce understeer. I think the theory is that the wider wheel will stretch the sidewall, provide a little wider footprint, and and help turn in.

Never tried it ... but it sounds like a fun experiment.

Kyriian,

I was just reading about larger tires on the front of a FWD car in Race Car Dynamics. If I can be helpful, I'll post a reply back here. If nothing else, I may be able to define our inuitive approach with some sound science...or theory...they're the same thing.

Meb---please post your findings.

Kyriian---are you running camber plates? If so, more negative camber may help you fit the wheels without rubbing.

send me a quick PM if you want I can send you some pictures of a fellow owner who has 17x8 +30 which still looks really good..

I have plans to do 17x8 +35, just awaiting for the wheels to arrive to do a test fit

I couldn't find the information - I was in a rush last night. Give me till over the weekend.

I've used larger tires up front in the past and they do eveything you would expect, and some things you would not...the later is not really a concern on the track. Things get very interesting on bumpy public B roads; the SAI has been altered as has the shape of the contact patch - the potential exisits for the front end to grab at everything. They do go a long way to leveraging front grip however.

Actually, while riding shotgun in an M3 with an instructor friend at LRP last year, we were - no he was - trying to chase down a very old Golf. It had very large tires up front. Thru every turn, his tires were pointed rather obviously to the center of the turn while the car remained on line...very funny to witness. We eventually caught him, I think with power, not handling. It works.
