Good deal on BBKs?

I've been poking around asking about BBK's, and one company has responded very favorably... I was only asking questions and providing pics of my Mini, and at no time asked for discounts or sponsorships or anything, and a distributor has offered me a partial sponsorship package on a BBK. I think it's because I may have mentioned I was looking at a rival company's product.

I don't race my Mini, and don't know much about BBKs yet, but could those of you older and wiser than I let me know if this is a decent deal or not?

Wagnbat,

Our brake system consist of the following

ROTORA BIG BRAKE KIT (FRONT)
2-PIECE SYSTEM 330X30MM (13") OVERSIZE SLOTTED/DRILLED DISCS
ROTORA HIGH-CERAMIC RACE PADS
STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES
CARBON STEEL (SC45) MOUNTING BRACKET
4-PISTON CALIPER (RED OR METALLIC BLUE)
LIST PRICE: $1,995.00
WHEEL SIZE REQUIRED: 17” MINIMAL

Attached is an image for your reference. (copied and moved to: http://mappage.net/mini/4-Piston-Brake-System.jpg)

The reason why we would like to offer you a “partial sponsorship” price is simply the fact that our full brake system will provide a much better performance compared to the (deleted to protect company) upgrade kit.
Seems like a decent price compared to most... Though it's only for the front wheels?

Advice plz?

Oh, and the price to me is roughly $725

You can put your hands on Brembos less then $2200 with a strong negotiation.

That's $1500 more? The above deal is $725...

That's what I'm asking... Are there any reasons not to? Is it normal to only do the front for BBKs?

Most kits are only the front, aren't they?

I would like to think that they're good brakes, 13" and 4 piston caliper. That alone should be overkill.

I would also believe that this company would let these brakes go at this price because they're not selling well for whatever reason, and they happened to have stock. I would have to say price and maybe relatively low brand recognition would factor in here. That said, there shouldn't be any reason you can't get $750 worth of stopping power out of these, and with the extra money you can even get that rear add on kit at tce or where ever.

Bat, that sounds like a really good deal. If you are comfortable with the supplier, and the quality of the parts, it sounds like you should jump in with both feet. I'd love to find a BBK for that kind of price!

Wagn, hold on a sec. Who is Rotora? Never heard of them. Have you checked them out? What is there racing experience behind their kits? What racing teams USE their stuff?

They have been in business for only a few years ... There is NO MINI application on their website. Are you going to be their guinea pig?

Your money, you can do your own thing. IMHO, I would only buy from a well-established company with a history in the business and proven products.

After all, with your brakes, your life depends on it.

Nothing like some blatant 'back door advertising'. LOL

"We'll make you a helluva deal if you get us on there letting everyone know we have kits and don't have to pay a vendor fee for it" Granted everyone does it but this one is rather obvious...

Still for the cost it's a good buy no doubt. Somehow I don't think that price is going to be for 'everyone'. On the other hand, if it IS that kinda makes you wonder how someone can list a kit for $2k and still sell it for $725. Might tend to under cut the value a bit?

They're fairly known in the Asian import market so they're not an unknown quantity. Just here. From my seat; the more the better.

Thanks for the info Todd... They've not asked me to advertise or post here or anything... I just wasn't sure what to do.

And Chows, if you google Rotora, all the first hits are these brake/rotor guys. That's not a testament to quality, but it is that they're around. They were also @ Sema, which tells me that they care enough to show up to big shows... Eh.

Nothing for the Mini specifically, true... But maybe this is for me... I do like being unique.

I might have kneecapped myself. But it's the principal of the thing, eh?

I went to fill out the forms they requested, and it says on the forms that I'm required to put 3 1-foot or bigger vinyls on my car, and attend whatever tradeshows they tell me to.

I wrote back to them that for a partial-sponsorship, vinyls & tradeshows would be a no-go, because I don't do either (except my stripes ).

Meh... I don't think the deal is worth changing who I am, or my car.

that is a bit of a turn off for the vinyl and the attention of tradeshows.

Well, I sent them the above post, reworded of course... and got a favorable response. Looks like all will work out.

One last thing... You didn't elaborate on required tradeshows. On the form it says attendance is required for local and national tradeshows... I am active duty military, and travelling around to tradeshows isn't really an option for me. Is that okay?

Thanks,
