Anyone have Ultraleggeras?

I'm thinking of getting these in 17x7 as my next set of wheels, but I want something that will clear my BBK without spacers.

Does anyone know how well Ultra's clear a BBK?

I currently have BBS RK's, which I like alot, but they are getting a little chipped/scratched etc. after three years They also need a 5 mm spacer to clear my BBK (Detroit-Tuned, 17" kit). I want to lose the spacers on my next wheel choice.

I just got a set of Ultraleggeras (17x7), and need a ~3mm spacer to clear my Stoptech BBK. You may be able to get away without a spacer on most BBKs as the Stoptechs are known for needing LOTS of caliper clearance.

There is a picture of a Mini on Ultraleggeras in Autoweek I believe it is. It's an ad for Tire Rack I think and it has a silver Mini with Ultraleggeras! Looked swell!

Hi Strom, could you post a picture of your ride with your Ultras and Stoptech please?

Yes, please post pics

I'd like to see 'em too

I believe my BBK (Detroit-Tuned, formerly B3) is quite a bit less "challenging" to fit wheels around than the Stoptech.

Two questions:

Anyone -- any idea how much more wheel clearance the 17" Detroit-Tuned BBK has vs Stoptech?

Strom -- with 3 mm spacers what kind of clearance do your Stoptechs have? Just a credit card thickness or do you have a couple mm's or more?

Thanks!

Haha - sorry for the wait. These pictures aren't really very good, but I didn't have a tripod at the time and it's pretty dark. The flash makes the bottom one washed out as well.

Hi Storm,

Your mini look very nice...really like the colour of the Ultra as it matches your DS perfectly....
Am considering these rims for my ride with yellow STs as well.
I might go for the limited edition F1s in matt black, however I am having concern that due to the +37 offset and your adding of another +3mm spacer, will the tyres rub on the fenders during hard turning.
What suspension mods have you done? Lowered?

Cheers

I do get a little rubbing with as low as I am - I have Bilstein PSS9s. It's really only over BIG bumps in the rear, or bumps while cornering, and isn't doing much damage at all to the fender liner. In the fronts, I got a little bit of rubbing on the inside of the fenders during hard cornering, but it's not much and has basically stopped (enough wore away from the fender). I use 215/40-17 tires on the track (vs. these 205/45-17s), and the shorter sidewall with the provides enough clearance so that I can use a 5mm spacer in front and still get no rubbing.

well that settles it, I'll be getting a set of graphite ULs soon. Been debating between silver and graphite. Thanks for the pics

Great looking car. Are you using the stock lug nuts?

Nope - installed a stud kit. I can take some closeups later.

What tires are you running in that pic? I am deciding on a Ultralegga setup for my 06 JCW. Trying to decide 17 or 18's and what tires to run for summer street use.

The UL's look great on your car.

In the picture it looks like you have clearance that is equal to about the length of your fingernail between the spokes and the StopTech caliper. If so this is probably about 10 mm clearance, with the 3mm spacer on. Or is this just the angle of the picture making it seem that way?

If this is really how much clearance you have it would seem like you would still have adequate clearance (~ 7mm) if you took off the 3mm spacer...is this right?

Again, just trying to get an idea how much clearance these ULs have ... Thanks!

It's probably closer to 4 or 5 mm clearance. I would run 2 or 1 mm spacers if I knew where to find them.

The tires I'm running are Avon Tech M550 A/S all-season tires in 205/45-17. They're at the high end of the all season spectrum, but they're my street tires and will last a long time. I am currently using Toyo T1-Rs in 215/40-17 at the track on Superleggeras, and will probably go to Kumho V710s when those run out.
