I have the 17" runflats. The contact width appears to be about 7". When looking at the car they appear too skinny for what it is. Anyone have any reccomendations for a good width of tire?

The ever popular ES100 from Yokohama is a 7.9 inch tread width.( based on Yokohama's measuremnt on a 7 inch wide wheel, static unloaded)

So for the stock run-flats (pirelli) did I do my measurement right? I use a tape measure and measured across the top of the tire.

I would say that pretty close, typically the have the tire with no weight, and they measure from edge of each tead cap with a clamp style micromiter

The S lites (R85) are 17x7
The R90's are also 17x7

So your wheels are most likely 7 inches wide
(data taken from this previous post)

Dunno. I can't find anywhere in the manual where it says what they are. They are 8 spoke white wheels that comes with the sport package. So whatever that is, that's what I have.

I've really been trying to decide upon wheels in a 16" size for performance reasons over looks. I'd like to have a little bit more of a contact patch than the 7" wide one like I have now. Does the ES100 tire come in a 16" version in around 8 " wide without giving up anything in diameter?

205/50/16 is .3 shorter in diameter, and 7.5 at the tread measured on a 6.5 inch wid wheel. Sounds like your have S lites.
