Can't seem to find metal hub centric rings. Everywhere I looked only offered them in plastic.

I got mine at Discounttire.com. I think they're also known as America's Tire in some parts of the country.

 

I just ordered some from www.1010tires.com. The rings were around $30 and shipping was $15 ground $30 2day. They should be here by Friday.

 

I ordered a set of for from Tire Rack a couple of months ago. They were like $6 each.

 

yep, got mine from Tire Rack also and they're still $6 each. Unless Tire Rack handles the wheels you have you'll probably need the dimensions of the center hole on your rims.

 

Got mine from DiscountTire.com for $15 including the shipping.

I did talk to America's Tires and they told me that they only has Plastic Rings.

How did you guys order it from Discount Tires or Tire Rack online? I couldn't find anything relating to hub rings. Did you have a choice of color?

 

just give Alex a call at Tire Rack. You're going to need to make sure the OD of the ring matches the ID of your wheels. He knew exactly what ring my wheels needed. Maybe the number of variables involved has something to do with the centering rings not being listed at the on-line stores.

 

My new wheels came with plastic hub-centric rings, (versus aluminum).

So, NAM faithful, I have a question: Should I upgrade to metal, or will the supplied plastic rings work just as well?

I've heard that the plastic rings can melt in heavy braking conditions...

 

what size rings do we use? i know it's 56.1 for the inside diameter but what is the outside? thanks.

 

The plastic rings will not corrode, the aluminum ones will ( at least they did to me here in MN, winters are harsh!) And the aluminum cost more, with no other benefits. Sure they look pretty, but will you ever see them once they are on your car?

 

the outside diameter of the rings is dependent on the wheels you're trying to fit.

 

i have plastic rings that were supplied by tirerack when i purchased the wheels. the reason i'm looking into aluminum rings is that they supposedly diminish vibrations while driving. my steering wheel vibrates lightly during driving so... would aluminum rings solve the problem? or is there something else i should look into?

 

you should try your rear wheels on the front and front wheels on the rear
and see wat happens.

centering rings is really not needed although some have claimed it reduced
vibrations. our wheels a lug centric by design. i dont even use centering
rings on my other car's cheezo wheels. no vibrations ever felt.

 

What is the concensus? Polycarbonate rings or metal? I have been told metal rings can cause chattering. I have also told that the polycarb or plastic could melt on the track.

my metal rings on my SSR's do not chatter at all.

i suppose between the two, alumium ones are better.

another question, do you apply anti-seize between the "metal" ring and the wheel?

 

I've used plastic hub-centric rings for 2 years with no problems.

If I was going to use metal rings, heck yes I'd use some anti-seize on them.

 

I used the plastic, melted them to the hats on the track.

Metal only for me now.

 

I'm guessing you use your brakes harder than I do. 5 track days for me & they are fine. I better speed things up a bit me thinks.

 

durability.

heat resistance (wont melt or reshape/deform).

wont crack either when you pry off rusted rotors.
