Inexpensive, lightweight track rims?

I just picked up a set of Xlites at 17.6lbs each. used for about $200.
Tires are costing me 115ea.
I think if you are looking for new rims you will be SOL.
Cuz you WILL want new tires, and they will be 100-150ea.
So that leaves 200-400 for rims... new? good luck.
My suggestion is look for used rims for racing.

edge racing, one of the site's sponsors, sells cheap wheel and tire packages.
Cheap may not necessarily be good, though.

You can get a set of 15" Rota's and tires for under $800. 15 Rotas are pretty darn light and their tire choices are not bad at all.
I have Rota SubZero's and they are beautiful. Mine are 17" so they are almnost 17 lbs but the 15" ones are less than 13 lbs. The 15" Slipsteams are under 12 lbs.

Looks like the Slipstreams or Subzero's are the only way to go for cheap and light. I think that is the way I am going to go with the Mini.
Can anyone recommend good TRACK r-compounds? I've heard good things about Pilot Sport Cups, but they are pricey. I'd like something that will wear pretty well (i'll be driving on them to and from events), though will still have good grip. I had Nitto 555RII on my other car and liked them, but they only come in 275-40-17 last time I checked (that'll be fun trying to fit on the mini!!). Kumho Victoracers are another choice, but I don't believe they have the wear of the Sport Cups?? Obviously, I really don't know much about this, that is why I am asking!! Help me out here!!

Kumho Victoracers and Toyo RA1's both have great wear characteristics. The Victoracers I bought a few years back had a year and a half of heavy autocrossing, 2 hours of on-track time, and at least 1000 street miles on them, and they still had 1/3 - 1/2 of the tread left when I sold them to a friend.

holies and azenis!
Pick up a set of holies and run some 205/50/15 azenis on them ... I love them. 33lbs cold heats gets to about 38 - 39 hot in a 25 min run session and they work great!
Used holies bought locally .................. $50
Spray paint them any color you want ... $5
Azenis on sale .................................. $300
Great, personalized track wheels .......... priceless

HOw do the RA-1's handle an autocross?? My cousin switched from Voctoracers to Pilot Sport Cups on her Boxster and wasn't very happy about it in autocross. The Victoracers seemed to have much higher grip (though I don't beleive the treadwear was there). She also said that at the track it took a good 2 laps before the Sport Cups were warmed up. Can anyone else confirm/deny this? The RA-1's seem to be pretty pricey... budgets here people!!

I will always argue that 15s are a great way to go for track wheels if you are running stock brakes.
15s = lighter, cheaper, easy to find. You can get great deals on 205/50/15 RA1s as this is the size the spec miata guys run.
www.good-win-racing.com has some good deals on tire and wheel packages mounted with RA1s.

I am very satisfied with the Flik Blast wheel and tire package I got from Edge Racing. Arrived in less than a week. Been through two years of autocrosses and track days without a problem. Started with Falken Azenis. Now running Hankook RS2s.

Why not some other r-comp? Well, the PSC's live a LOT longer on the VERY rough (yet VERY grippy) asphalt autocross surface. This season, we've got several events at a sealed asphalt site and one on a smooth concrete surface, so the PSC's will wear even longer... Also, the PSC's work great for DE's, too, which is a bonus... V710's and Hoosiers only last about 4 events on our normal autocross venue's surface, whereas the PSC's and Toyo RA-1's will go all 9 events in our normal season plus a couple DE's...

Kobe wheels
I have been shopping for several weeks on the internet for wheels and tires. The best deal I've seen so far are for a set of 16" Kobe Literace wheels and Falken Azenzi tires for $899. from Wheelsnext.com. This wheel weighs in at only 11.87 pounds. Problem is I know nothing about the quality of the wheel so hesitate. Anyone else have experience with this wheel of with Wheelsnext?
