KUMHO V710s and stock rims...

Quick question for those of you who may know.. I have a set of the stock 16" 5 spoke rims and would like to know if the KUMHO V710 in 215/40/16 will fit.

I was under the impression that the V710s are what people are running in GS, which should mean stock or at least stock sized rims.

The reason for asking is that I ordered a set and America's Tire has been trying to mount them since last Saturday (4/15) and finally called me today and said they give up.

Thanks

Yes, they fit and many people run that tire on stock (or aftermarket) 16x6.5" wheels, but like many stock class cars and race tires, it isn't an easy fit. If they aren't competentent enough to mount them, contact some of your local autocross club members and find out who they use to mount their tires.

My local Discount Tire (same chain as America's Tire I believe) mounts my race tires, and even usually does it for me for half price since I give them so much business. They've got some really good guys in their shop and mounted my Kumhos without too much difficulty.

Thanks!

Keith,

Thanks for the reply. I figured as much.

I just spoke to the manager of the store and they're telling me the tires are too wide for the rims. They say that the bead is twisting when they try to get it seated and they can't get them to air up. He said they were trying to mount them using come-alongs around the circumference of the tire to help push the beads up into their seats, but they wouldn't go. He said they broke a bunch of straps on the come-alongs and only were able to get 1 of 4 tires mounted.

Interestingly enough, they were able to re-mount my used Hoosier A3S03's in the same size without any problem.

Unfortunately, these guys are one of our club sponsors so I figured I'd throw some business their way. Others in the club have reported good experiences. Looks like it's time to go back to the guys at our local Firestone who have mounted race tires for us in the past with no problems.

Several others have had trouble mounting Kumho V710 in 215/40-16 on stock X-lyte rims in my region. The tire won't mount the installers say.

Changing rims to stock sized 16x6.5" SSR comps did the trick and the tires mounted easily. Obviously the size of the rim is OK and does fit but the exact fitment of those specific tires on OEM MINI 16x6.5" rims leaves much to be desired- even competent mechanics can have trouble.

Anyone with Rota Slipstream 16x6.5" rims care to comment about mounting Kumho V710 tires on those rims- any problems?

Hoosiers in 215/40-16 should fit OK as mentioned.

Hoosier doesn't make a 215/40-16, at least they didn't in the S05 and not in the new A6/R6 either. Looking at the spec sheet for the new 205/45-16 A6 though, the dimensions are very very close to the 215/40-16 Kumho 710. Hoosier tends to make their tires a little wider than most other manufacturers.

The V710's went on the Slipstreams without any real drama. The beads are stiff and the tire is wide so it takes some effort but a competent shop can get them on there.

I "helped" my friend mount my 16" 710's on my 16x6.5 SSR comps, and it was brutal. In fact, we gave up and took them to some place with one of those machines for mounting super-bling wheels for SUV's and such.

It can be done, but it's not easy

Valve cores out, straps ratcheted down tight, and Hunter mounting paste should help
