Hankook Tires ???? SCCA approved.
#1
Looking at new rims and tires. Got to get those run flats off. Limited funds so I am looking at Tenzo R or BSA rims. One place has Toyos and the other has Hankook. I looked at the Hankook site and they are approved by SCCA. The official tire of the SCCA. Does anyone know of these? Any good? Soft or hard? Comments? Tires and wheels for $825.00 out the door. And the Tenzo are $899.00. Anyone have ideas for a good 17" rim and tire for around $900.00. Are BSA and Tenzo good rims??Please post or PM me. Thanks

Hankook tires just came out with an R compound tire, the Ventus Z211, which needs SCCA approval to qualify as a DOT approved tire. The tread wear rating on this tire will be below 100 and probably closer to 50. A DOT R compound tire has just enough tread (actually just two groves around the circumference of the tire) to be legal on the street.
$900 for wheels and tires, try these wheels with these tires $928 for wheels and tires not including shipping and mount/balance.
Call Joe or Peter at RSpeed for wheels and Dan at TireRack for tires.

>>Last try.....Please Please Please anyone???
I have not tried them personaly... but Grassroots Motorsports (magazine) did a tire test of the hot street tires for auto-x.... in their view the Hankook tires were on par with the Kuhmo 712 offering and close in grip to the Falken and BFG KD's.... Wish I had more info for ya..... I have used the Kuhmo 712s a few times and have been happy.... next for street rubber I plan to give the new Yokohamas a try.... (evs 100 I think)
Now as for a Hankook R compound tire.... that is interesting..... I have run (in autocross) Hoosiers.(the best) Kuhmos (very close) and Michelin Pilot sport cups /r compound/ (SUCKED!!!)
although I have heard they are good for track events

The michelin Pilot Sport cup is an excelent tire, but doesnt heat up quick enough for autocross. exelent track tire, best longevity for lapping days, it can even be driven to and from the track without picking up the entire road.
