Motegi Tracklites

Whose running these? Do you dig them? What size? Im considering 15's for track work at HPDE's over my JCW brake kit. Alex at TR (who has been AWESOME in helping me) has me thinking and I think its a great option given the fitment selection of rubber. I jus never considered stepping down from my stock 17's so I was wondering if anyone is running this setup.

my other consideration is the OZ Ultras', but the Motegi's are forged. which in turn makes them stronger and since these are dedicated to the track....

Hi Alex...

I don't believe any 15"s will fit over JCW calipers.

Why not 16's? It's what the autocross guys/gals are all running.

I ordered the 15's (montegi tracklites with Pilot Sport Cups) after being realistic about when and how why I would get to a BBK. I need seat time, and a good set of rubber and thats about it to enjoy the MINI. The 205/50/15 has the most options when it comes to rubber, so there you have it. Ive been assured that I will have no fitment issues...should have them in a few weeks (back ordered)

205/50/15's? that's way off the stock OD. We are considering 15" TrakLite 2.0's since they are forged and 10lbs. Tire selection is the problem.

Yes, it's way off, but it offers an advantage for track/autocross use. Also, if you browse the 15in wheel thread, you'll see that there are people running it with no problem, even on the street.

It will throw your speedo off, but give you quicker acceleration and less sidewall flex since there's, well, less sidewall. All of those things are acceptable to many for off road use, which is what the author of this thread is going to use them for.

I love the size for its replacment cost, and light feel in my fingers!

And 15's do fit - I can guarantee it. We have testfit -its not heresay.

Alex - what about the large difference in OD? That's not a typical of you guys to recommend something 1.3 inches off the stock 195/55/16 size, or 3.4 mph off at 60mph.

Let me clarify - I want a 15" setup for road use for the performance benefits of a lighter setup. No track time planned.

I have the 17" traklites, so far so good, i likes the looks and the sure are lighter then stock, i think the 17" are 14-15 lbs or something, one thing is with the 17" the brakes look tiny.

OK, lightweight street rims and road tires?

If Alex says the 15" rims will fit over the JCW brakes then great.

For tires just pick 205/55-15 which is slightly smaller than stock outer tire diameter but very close at 23.9". Works well for street use and many good tires to choose from, smooth riding and good enough performance with fairly light weight.

For track use 205/50-15 can work well but the tires are much smaller than stock size. I've been using this size on the street and like my speedo to show a faster speed than I'm really going.
