I recently changed the pads on the front of my JB/JB '03 MCS. I found it easy. My only concern was the two allen head bolts that hold the caliper. The bolts are inserted into a bushing allowing the tips of the bolts to press against the back of the break pads. I conferred with a BMW certified wrench who gave me the OK on the servicing.

Fronts are very simple. Nothing special.
Rears are a bit trickier in that as you clamp the piston to retract it back into the caliper, you MUST rotate the piston as well. But it's not really that hard. A simple C-clamp to clamp and either channel locks (slip joint) or needle nose to rotate. 'tis not a big deal.
In my opinion, the hardest part is removing the Torx screw holding the rotor onto the hub. Make sure you get that bugger out before you take off the calipers!
