Falken Torque 5 & Falken z512 tires

Hey all.

I am thinking about getting a set of 17" Falken Torque 5 wheels in Gloss Back & Falken z512 tires in size 205-45-17.

Anyone have these?

Like em?

Got pictures of your Mini with them?

Price you paid and where?

I can order them for about $900 for the entire package delivered.

Thanks,
K.Riese

You can get this package for $799 plus shipping from Edge Racing. I just ordered the same set up, only in silver.

Did you receive the new Falkens? I'd be interested to here how they fit and ride when you get them.

I'm still waiting, it's only been 3 or 4 days since I ordered. I'll get the pictures on after receipt/install.

This also means I'll soon be listing for sale my 3 piece 18" Enkei wheels I'm currently running. They can be seen in my gallery. Probably going to ask $1200 obo.

I do love the look of my current Enkeis, however 18" wheels handle a little differently and I much prefer how the 17"s feel.

just had them installed today!

I just bought 4 Falken Torque 5 Wheels and 4 matching Ziek 17: (205-45-17) tires installed on my car today. My local tire guy sold me the set and installed them for the same price that Edge Racing was selling them for. SEE MY GALLERY FOR PICS.

However, as is the case with most of the after market wheels/tires that I've purchased, after balancing them 2 times on each tire, I have a slight vibration at speeds of 50+ MPH. Once I hit 70 MPH it goes away, but the fact remains, most of my driving is in the 50 to 65 MPH, so I am stuck with the vibration. I've tried less air pressure, lug nut adjustment, rebalancing, yet nothing eliminates the vibration totally. The same thing happened when I recently purchased (and returned) Flik Wasp wheels from Edge Racing. However, 2 of the flik wheels were bent and vibrated extremely on my car.

I would be interested to know if yours ends up riding the same way after you have the new wheels/tires installed.

Other than the vibration, they look sharp, which i guess I'll have to live with.

Here' the deal. After 4 balancing tries, I ook te Falken wheels and tires to a shop that has a Road Force Hunter 9700 machine. They balanced them perfectly and I still get vibration. The shop mechanic cannot explain it. He is the 4rd mechanic from 2 different shops. All of them know the issue is not with the Mini because my stock wheels/rtires ride perfectly and there's no steering shake with them on the car.

I've had it! So, I removed the wheels/tires and re-mounted the stock wheels/tires and guess what? No vibration! Therefore, it's either the wheels/tires, balancing machines, or just plain human error.

I took the wheels/tires back to the shop where I got them and they will refund my credit card next week.

Back to square one. All I want is a nice set of black wheels that ride correctly.

BTW: The wheels were mounted using lugcentric bolts and tuner lugs, then remounted using hubcentric rings and lugs, and neither worked to remove the vibration. They were hand tightened using a torque wrench as well.

How did the offset and width of the wheel compare to the stock wheel?

I put a set of wheels with a greater offset than stock on my last S, and it would find road irregularities due to that offset. If the road was perfectly smooth, it was great, but tiny blivits would cause vibration in the steering wheel. I just lived with it, because I really liked the look of the rubber being moved to the outside of the car.

I installed my silver Falken Torque 5's with the Falken 512 tires a few days ago and wanted to drive for a couple of days before posting my results. They arrived from Edge Racing on Tuesday in perfect condition and I installed them the same evening. No vibrations at all. The ride is smooth and confident without a hint of trouble. My suspension is stock, and I used the supplied 12mm x 1.5 tuner bolts and plastic hub rings.

HomerJ, I got my Falken 512's (with SSW Inferno's) yesterday, and I'm loving the set-up! I got the wheels and tires from EdgeRacing, and I couldn't be happier. (I'm also pleasantly blown away by how superior these Falken's are to the stock run-flats. There's obviously no comparison, but I can't help it.)

It happened to my TDR Wheels too
it was out of balance for awhile even after balancing it at a shop
so I asked them to REMOVE ALL THE WEIGHTS, clean the inside of the wheel for any debris and rebalance them. They did it and vibration problem was solved after that...
