run flat tire weight.

run flat tire weight.
ok,i'm confused!
everyone seems to list one of the advantages of getting rid of runflats (pirelli euphorias) as saving weight but according to the wheel/tire weights thread, swapping out to,say, yokohama es100's would give me no weight savings and going to a 215 in that tire would actually add weight!
are these weights listed wrong or is everyone that claims runflats are heavy, wrong? again,i'm confused.
pip.
ps.i understand there are other advantages to dumping the runflats.

For 205/45/17 tires, in the tire forum stickies, the Goodyear Eagle RS-A's are
listed as 30.37 lbs, but a search on tire rack says they're actually 22 lbs.
other runflats in this size:
Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT 23 lbs.
Dunlop SP Sport 9000 DSST runflats 21 lbs.
Pirelli Eufori Runflats 22 lbs.
Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport Runflat 23 lbs.
Of the 16 non-runflats listed in this size, most were 20 lbs., with a few 21 and 22,
and only one at 24# which was the Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport (non-runflat).

I've thought this through for when I need new tires. Ours is a 2006 MCS with 17" S-lites and Dunlop runflats. I'm considering going to a 16" wheel (lighter, but requires more tire so the tire is about 2 lbs heavier).
[SIZE=2]The lightest 16" factory wheel is R84 x-lite (standard on MCS without sport package) which weighs 17.6 lbs. The OEM all-season tire is the Dunlop SP Sport 5000A DSST which weighs 23.0 lbs. Total weight is 40.6 lbs.
17" S lite weighs 25.1 lbs and the Dunlop 9000 tire weighs 21.0 lbs for a total weight of 46.1 lbs. weight savings going to 16" X-lites is 5.5 lbs per wheel, total 22 lbs of unsprung weight.
Rota Slipstream available in 16x6.5 exact MCS spec weigh 13.5 lbs. This plus the Dunlop 16" tire at 23.0 lbs makes for a total of 36.5. This is 9.6 lbs per wheel or 38.4 lbs of unpsrung weight!
So, it's possible to save a lot of weight and keep running runflats.

Guys, the RF's are too stiff and the ride is so touchy/jumpy/agressive/almost out of control that could be improved so much with regular tires REGARDLESS of weight. I just went to 225x45x17 on original s-lites from NF 205x45x17 and lost 3 pounds :-) improving the rubber patch and car control. No brainer!

This is just my opinion on the matter at hand, but after swapping the RF's for a set of Toyo's I found that the increased sidewall stiffness of the RF's provided better cornering. But what convinced me to switch was not really the weight but the $$$. Maybe the myths concerning the extra weight of RF's come not from actual testing but from "common sense" about the extra sidewall stiffness attributing to more weight. Just my $0.02.. happy motoring!
