widest 18" wheel safe for MCS

Hey all, my wife has an 06 CR/W MCS currently with 17" white S lights. We're looking at getting 18" OZ superturismo WRC wheels for it (should be a great combo with the red/white) and want to go as wide as possible.

TTR's website shows the wheels only available in 18x7, but I'd like to do 18x7.5 or 18x8 if it's possible to do without having big rubbing problems.

the suspension is stock non-sport atm.

I'm not adverse to doing the euro stretched rubber look, either, putting a 215 tire on an 8" rim for example, if it will help with the rubbing.

Any advice appreciated.

PS. I could have sworn that I posted this in the wheel thread last night, but it seems to have disappeared.

For 18" OZ superturismo WRC in white from Tirerack.com
They only come in 18x7"
Given this rim size you can put on
BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 in
215/40-18 this fits rims from 7 to 8.5" wide

225/35-18 fits rims from 7.5-9" wide so an 18x8" rim is good.
Tirerack.com doesn't have that many 18x8" rims but I did find-
Rial Nogaro 18x8 $219 each closeout 23.2 pounds each Bright Satin with Machined lip

235/35-18 fits rims from 8-9.5" wide and has an outer tire diameter of 24.5" which is very close to stock. Pretty wide tire though for a MINI.

I run a 18 x 7.5 with 40 offset with 215/35-18 tyres - I get a slight rub when loaded up

I have a HRE competition 18X8 with a 44 offset, and a 215/35/18 tire, I have the car lowered and still no rubbing!

thanks for the replies, guys. I'm don't even know if OZ offers the wheel in a 7.5" or 8" width, but I'm going to try to find out, even if TTR doesn't offer them standard.

I second that. Which HRE comps do you have? HRE's are one of my favorite wheels for any car, but you don't see too many of them on a Mini.

I've only seen them on 4 MINI's. Two of which is because I e-mailed HRE for a quote. BTW the widest rim HRE recommends is 18x8, I don't know what offset they use, I guess that depends on what the customer wants.

Do you have a pic of your wheels? I'm considering HRE 840R series and was wondering how the 18's will look on the MINI.

I'm considering HRE's too. I have yet to see them on a MINI. Would you mind sharing the photos that HRE sent you?

Not at all. Let me upload them into my gallery and I'll post the pics. The 18s look PERFECT in my opinion.

I'm running 225x45x17 and can tell you that 225 is the max width tire you can put in there. I went 235 but rubbing was too bad, tried different spacers but no way - too wide. IMHO 225x??x18 should work.

Oh those are so cool! Thanks for posting them.

I wasn't sure how the 18's would look. They are nice. Wow, now I just have to save my pennies. I love the 840R series. There are 4 different ones that I really like. So you said that 8" is the max that HRE recommends? Did you end up getting HRE's or did you go with something else?

I still haven't gotten any wheels. Right now I'm just shopping around to see exactly how much money I have to save. And yes, HRE said that 8" wide in an 18" rim is as wide as I should go with a lowered MINI. Someone on here did 17x9 in the rear if you want that. Personally I think the 18s look so good that an 8inch wide rim is sufficient for me. And you could probably run a 225/40/18 without rubbing even on a slightly lowered MINI. I know that's what I'll most likely be running whenever I get wheels.

Thanks MCS,

Just so everyone should know, the first photo is before I had the car lowered and the second is after. I have 18X8 wheels and while I am pretty sure HRE would do 18X8.5 I wouldn't recommend it as my tires are almost flush with the wheel arch. Also I am using 215/35/18 tires. Thanks again

awesome pics, nice ride, thanks for posting em. Do you have any pics that show off the width of the wheel? i.e. is the extra inch of fatty worth it?
