Makes me wornder though, I have an 03/03 MCS, and was going to do my brakes at the end of the month. Do I buy new sensors now, or just wait to see if they are there?
There will be a wire going to sensor at the edge of one of the pads. You can probably see them without taking the wheel off!

My 2003 (10/02 build) has brake wear sensors. Whenever my faulty rear caliper has destroyed the inside rear pad, the metal on metal grinding sound alerts me that it is time to have my brakes worked on. . . . .

If the light did not come on, you don't need the $16.00 wear sensor, cause you did not wear through it.

A little search and walla, I got a partial answer to my question. I have an 06/02 and do not have sensors. I'd like to know exactly when they began installing them? Otherwise, I'm good w/ just using my eye ***** and ears to check for wear.

Later than us...

I'm an 8/02 build... No sensors. Sometime around december 02?

And don't sweat it. They only work on one side of two of the calipers.

My MINI is a December '02 build '03 MCS. No brake pad wear sensors and damn glad about that! I track the MINI and so change the brake pads several times a year. Don't need to be fiddling around with unneeded sensors and wires.

JoeGreen, my MINI, dob 01/10/03 apparently doesn't have rear sensors. Explains why no warning light has gone off, doesn't it? I'll tell you on Monday next when he gets new pads and rotors on all four whether there are sensors anywhere.

Naive question perhaps: I assume they cannot be added if they didn't come with the original vehicle? I've used a local foreign car shop since warranty expired and they are ordering the parts. I should tell them not to worry about the sensors, right? Advice?

Joe will be 4 years old in just two months and he is holding up marvelously. This is the end of the ORIGINAL set of brakes at 85,350 miles, taken from coast to coast and border to border. He is ready for his third Inspection II in about 5000 miles. I still remember watching the Aida float the wintry Atlantic in January '03 and all the fuss we made over how long they kept the MINIs at the VPC back then .... 'Memories' playing in background ... a couple of Dragons, fun with CMMC, and a small scratch here and there ... Great wheels IMHO!

I finally did my brakes last weekend and sure enough my 03/03 has them too. It also had a stipped torx bolt holding the darn rotor on. But that is for another post...

No brake sensors on my 01/03. Service manager couldn't believe I had 85K on the original brakes. He thinks they should last no more than 30-40K. I assume since my mileage is basically long trips and much time on interstates, where I use cruise rather than brakes to slow, that I just don't abuse brakes like I would in constant city traffic.
