question for the dudes at tirerack.com
#1
I just recently put on some 17 in wheels and tires and am experiencing some vibration. I was told that this is due to the fact that the mini is a bolt type assembly as opposed to the lugs on the japanese cars. I was also told that a hub centric ring might help... I was going to get the wheels rebalanced but am not sure now that they've brought up the hub rings... any help on this would certainly be appreciated....
sorry, tirerack, but you didn't carry the wheels that I wanted for my mini or else I would have definitely gone your way....

...And to follow-up on asaulo1 question,
I assume that I too will need hub centric rings because my new rims will have a hub bore of 75 and the mini's is 56.1 but do I have to be concerned with which bolts I will use with my new rims?
I never thought of all the concerns with replaing Greta's shoes.
Peace Out

you may infact have a purfect balance, but if the wheel's center bore is larger than the stub axel of your MC, you can get a vibration. Its riding on the lug bolts, not the hub.
Think of lugs, be them bolts or lug nuts, are merely a clamp to hold the wheel against the hub. The centerbore is what bears the load of the vehcle. If you centerbore does not contact the stub axel, all the vehicle's weight is applied sideways to its clamping mechanism. This is not particularly safe, or comfortable.
Whom ever set you up with these wheels should get you neccisary centering rings.
Tirerack only sells its install hardware for wheels we carry, and I allways include it with wheels you purchase from me, at no charge.

thanks for the info.... I called the wheel manufacturer and was told that hub rings should have been supplied by wheelmax... called wheelmax and their reply was that the wheels were too new and that they didn't have the right size... lesson to be learned here... order your wheels from tirerack next time.... anyway, I did find out the exact spec of the wheel bore for my new tire and was able to get a set of hub rings from prestigewheel.com for $40/set 73mm to 56.1 center bore for the mini.... thanks all....
I'll give you an update when they're installed....

My rings are typically $5 each, however Tirerack is very selective about selling rings for wheels we sell. There is too much at play in type of securing method and seat type, to sell them "universally"

>>just curious... question for alex... would you carry the hub rings for 73mm to 56.1? and how much? like i said, just curious....
