Steel wheels for the MINI

For those who want to know, steel rims from a 2002 Honda Civic EX are the perfect size for the Mini. The size is 15x6 with a 4x100 bolt, offset 40~45mm, but there was no rubbing on my 2003 MCS with 205/50/15 size tires.

alex at the tire rack is your friend

I bought 4 15x6.5 steel wheels from Alex at the tire rack. Total was like $212.00 delivered to my door. They fit perfect. I bought some mini centercaps from Mini Peabody for like $10.00ea and mounted some 195/65r15 blizzaks I had bought previously from the tire rack for a different car. Call Alex. You will have what you want in 2 days.

This picture came from another thread, it's not my car. The wheels and center caps are the same as mine.

17" Steel Wheels over JCW Brakes?

Can anyone help me find 17" steel wheels that can be used over JCW brakes? I'd like these for a winter tires.

Thanks

are there any inherent disadvantages to running steel wheels year round?
assuming that one would switch out winter tires for something seasonally appropriate.

well, I would think so.

Most people buy the Mini with the handling high on the list. Less stiff steel wheels will hurt handling and feel. Wont matter in the snow, but dry traction it sure will. Plus the weight factor as well.

Steels are still my primary wheel.

I have a set of hollies that I run in the winter. The steering is noticeably heavier with the steel wheels compared to the hollies - I like it heavy. The mass also affects the other dynamics some. But on the whole, these effects are tolerable and I completely adapt after a day. It helps that my current tires on the steel rims are a high performance summer tire and the hollies have winter tires. So going back to the hollies with the winter tires results in a huge cut in overall performance.

I am thinking about switching the hollies to my primary rims when the current set on the steels wears out. I wish my hollies were black...

Okay

Help me out, I do not understand tire sizing, I want to put together an inexpensive set of snow tires on steel rims for my R56. If I can get 15" rims the snow tires for these are the least expensive

Larry- from what I understand 15" steel rims will not fit on your R56 S. Brake clearance issues on the R56 S, on the R53 it was not a problem. Call Alex at Tire Rack & he can fill you in on exactly what will fit on your R56.

Crashton, thanks

I'm trying to get this done as cheaply as possible since I only forsee 2 months of the winter needing these.

In any case, tire dealer is telling me the way to go is 16" all seasons (for economy). I'm going to attempt to get some 16" rims and asemble a winter set

larrydk. I'm in the same situation. Let me know what you come up with.

I did talk with Alex at the tire rack and he tells me that he has no steel wheels that will fit the R56.

Just wondering how you make out.

I know its an old thread but I was able to find a place that supposedly sells 16"x5.5" steel wheels for MINI, they came up under the "2008" "MINI" "COOPER HATCHBACK" selection categories.
I too have an R56 S and am looking for a set of winter rims and tires and need something to clear the brakes.

Even the alloy wheels fit... I have seen SiR alloy 16 inch on R53 before
