alex at the tire rack is your friend
I bought 4 15x6.5 steel wheels from Alex at the tire rack. Total was like $212.00 delivered to my door. They fit perfect. I bought some mini centercaps from Mini Peabody for like $10.00ea and mounted some 195/65r15 blizzaks I had bought previously from the tire rack for a different car. Call Alex. You will have what you want in 2 days.

Any chance you could show us some pics of your setup?

This is not my car
This picture came from another thread, it's not my car. The wheels and center caps are the same as mine.

Most people buy the Mini with the handling high on the list. Less stiff steel wheels will hurt handling and feel. Wont matter in the snow, but dry traction it sure will. Plus the weight factor as well.

Steels are still my primary wheel.
I have a set of hollies that I run in the winter. The steering is noticeably heavier with the steel wheels compared to the hollies - I like it heavy. The mass also affects the other dynamics some. But on the whole, these effects are tolerable and I completely adapt after a day. It helps that my current tires on the steel rims are a high performance summer tire and the hollies have winter tires. So going back to the hollies with the winter tires results in a huge cut in overall performance.
I am thinking about switching the hollies to my primary rims when the current set on the steels wears out. I wish my hollies were black...

I know its an old thread but I was able to find a place that supposedly sells 16"x5.5" steel wheels for MINI, they came up under the "2008" "MINI" "COOPER HATCHBACK" selection categories.
I too have an R56 S and am looking for a set of winter rims and tires and need something to clear the brakes.
