rotors on Ebay
#3
Several of my MINI buddiess and I have all bought drilled/slotted rotors off Ebay. Brembo front and Zimmerman rears. We all paid around $200 and they are still holding up great after 1.5 years. I don't track my car, but the brakes still experience a fair share of hard driving. Of course there is a small amount of rust that has built up on the edges or in the cracks, but nothing to complain about.
I know some of the more serious track drivers replace their rotors with Powerslot brand that cost about twice as much.

anybody use these?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mini-...QQcmdZViewItem
Probably not a wise choice. I think I read do not use cross drilled rotors on MINIs.

I hear/read about the downside of cross drilled...however in a street application, from some accounts, does the fear from cracking remain even though I don't get them glowing as in a track condition?
I, too, am cautious about unnamed eBay which is why I started the post. I hear a rubbing sound as I start off in the mornings and inspected the rotors. They have a slight raised section close to the hub and the pads are about half of the backer. So I may have to put off my rim purchase, upgrade the rotors, possible Sstl brake lines and new fluid. OR do you think the rotors can be turned so I can actually get the rims? That or lowering springs which then necessitates rear control arms $$$
help Mr. Wizard!!

My old brake pads where down to half the backing plate as well, after only 18k miles. The rotors were in bad shape too, they had worn down 2mm from the old surface, ie they had a 2mm raised lip on the rotor rim and near the hub.
When i replaced my brakes with powerslot cryo-tempered rotors and hawk ceramic brake pads, the guys at Midas said that the rotors would have been too worn to turn. That was fine with me because I had alread bought new rotors, pads, stainless steel lines, & fluid. It is an amazing combo, brake fade is a thing of the past and once at temp these things defy physics.
About that noise starting from a stop on mornings, I have it too, but it can happen at any startup.
Before the brake job i thought it was them, but after wards it still happens. I think it is the clutch or the transmission since I can get the noise to last if I let the clutch out slower.

Been running the Drilled and slotte rotor for over 3 years, Melted 2 sets of wheel studs, replaced the hubs them selves, but havent seen one crack as of yet. oh and on my 3rd set of pads. Only thing i suggest is to paint the Hats when you get them. They tend to rust overnight if any rain is about.
