Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212 225/50/16 on stock wheels?

Will the 225/50 Rs2's fit without rubbing? or is 205/50/16 a better choice?

from what i understand the 225/50/16 is ~1mph slow on the speedo
and the 205/50/16 is ~1mph fast on the speedo versus stock 195/55 RF's

Are the 225's too wide? Any input (for / against) is appreciated.

I'm between these and the Falken RT-615's in 225/50

You might be better off with 225/45R16's... the 50's might be a bit tall.

I guess that means you approve of the width

The Falken is a much gripper tire. The Hankook is especially bad (greasy) under braking. I'd go for the Falken. The only negative with the Falken is that it rides a little firmer and is a little noisier than the Hankook.

True, they are grippier in the dry - but in the wet, the z212 smokes the RT-615... By a LOT.

I haven't experienced any greasiness on z212's - not any more than the RT-615's anyway. Both require misting between runs if you're really trying to snag every extra .01 second you can...

hehe nothing could be firmer than the dunlop runflats

Noise is not an issue for me, Wet traction is however.

the 225/50/16 Falkens will fit without issue? i heard those run wide

If you want a good all around tire for the wet and the dry (not an autocross tire) try the Kumho SPT. They are awesome in the wet (Kevin McCormick won the San Diego NT on them in STS) and pretty good in the dry. Although they aren't as sticky as the Falkens in the dry but they are quieter.

Sorry, but I've heard nothing but bad things about autocrossing on the Hankooks. A Miata racer (good friend of mine) was complaining about lots of premature brake lock up (skidding). It completely went away when he switched to the Falkens. I've heard this from others as well. In fact, check out this review from Car & Driver:

Interesting that they didn't test the Falkens.

I wouldn't listen to Car and Driver's tire test results... ever...

Grassroots Motorsports, on the other hand, sure...

Anyhoo, I've run on the 'Kooks at the track and autocross and found them just fine - not as grippy as the Falken, but decent. And, like I said - in the wet, the 'Kooks are way, way better. The RT-615 is a lot better in the rain than the RT-215 was, but they still suck out loud. If there's any standing water, forget it...

As far as autocrossing and tires - a lot of people have won a lot of stuff in STS, STX, and STU on a variety of tires, from shaved FK451's to Azenis, to ADVANs, 050's, MX's and everything in between. Sometimes it just comes down to driving...

If this is your only set of tires, you might want to consider how bad the Falkens suck in heavy rain (which you get plenty of in south FL). Light rain, they're fine - standing water and it's hydroplane city.

If you're set on 225/50R16, I believe you can get the Bridgestone RE050 Pole Positions which are wicked in the dry and wet...
