BIG Brake Kit

What is the baddest, biggest, most bling-bling brake system offered for a MINI? I don't track the car...just want something that looks radical...kind of like what I have on my S4.

Biggest? Nope... Baddest? Among the best, yes... Most bling and VERY unique? Definitely!

IMO the best bang (and bling) for buck is the Detroit Tuned BBK.

I'd be more than happy to get you into the special "one off" 14" kit I have on the shelf. The kit has been idle while I've been out of the shop a bit but when I'm back on Sat it's wide open. You'll need 18's or larger to clear the rotor however...

It's all about light weight and cooling...

The Brake Man developed that shape, and many have tried to copy it...

Flower shape rotors?

That honestly looks like something my wife would put on her VW Bug with the white flower Mille-Miglia wheels.

Maybe it's useable bling but I'd leave that to those VW/Audi people or something.

The same "flower shaped" rotors you'll find on American Iron, dirt trackers, modifieds, sprints, midgets, late models, and NASCAR (rears on some Busch and Cup cars) race cars, yup.

All I can say is that they work... And, your wife's Bug would stop on a dime...

I like those txwerks brakes--very high on the bling, and way different (of course, every mountain biker has them nowdays!)
Here's the TCE 13" kit with thousands of miles of smiles on them: they sure do fill the wheels, look very serious, and work like no other brake I've ever used (+++):

Not the most bling, not the biggest (damn, do I have to buy 18" rims now, Todd?), but still a whole lot more than stock.

Looks awesome...that's the look I want...I'd prefer cross-drilled rotors though.

Cross-drilled are OK for the street but if your going to track the car at all not a very good idea.

Yeah, here's another vote for the Porsche BBK. They're by far the biggest, most blingy, and baddest *** set of calipers available for the MINI.

No contest. Those things are ginormous!

I suppose I'll start a war here of sort...but if you really feel that a MINI needs 17lb rotor rings to be effective; buy them. On the other hand, the fit of 1.25" wide rotors and the added .200" of radius is going to have near zero effect on brake effectiveness. The bias shift alone from 13 to 13.4" is less than 2% by radius only. That 2% may or may not be effected by how other elements of kit design is taken into consideration.

I have no problem making a 13.4 x 1.25" kit if someone wants one. I just feel that such mass is both more costly (add $100 to a 1.10" kit) and more weight that is of no use and perhaps a handicap to this application. Not to mention the loss of wheel fit room required by the shear size.

The 14" kit is one I've work hard to keep under control at a modest 1.10" width just to be able to offer the widest selection of wheel choices.
*when you guys figure out how to fit 19s on this car with ease let me know...we'll go to 14.8" rotors....http://www.tceperformanceproducts.co...MG1745_001.JPG

Agreed... IMHO, the increase in mass would negate some of the goodness that comes with a BBK! I mean, you're adding some 5.5 pounds more per front rotor versus stock. That's like slogging around an additional 44 pounds...

This is definitely a case for "bigger is not always better" for maximum performance!

very true, a similar sized rear brake kit is likely needed.. that said... tarox has a 10 piston setup for the mini as well for those who are into piston amount instead of big discs....

i think its all ridiculous... we have a 2600lb car! this is not a 4000 lb BMW!

When I talked to Stoptech a while back they said the Mini's rear caliper is well suited to a BBK. They would never produce one for the rear. Now, on my BMW, they do make a rear kit. They said it is more bling than functional on a daily street car but if you track it...can show improved benefits....But, then, they still said it's more bling than anything. I'm gettin it! P.S. - and my BMW weighs out at 3200lbs not 4K. Not much behind our FATTY Mini's.

The main reason I offer a "matching rear kit" is appearance. The main reason people buy it is that it compliments their front kit. Personally, I feel that's an important part of what you offer your customer. As for function the rear when paired with the 13" front kit produces a very well matched setup and does not require any pad changes or the like that you may want on a smaller rear rotor and large front mix.

Endless makes a real nice kit for the MINI... 6pot, equal pressure, etc.... but 5800.00 for the kit... oh yeah... fronts only.
