new wheel suggestions (JDM)...

hopefully the thread title caught some eyes. I was hoping to take a little different route with the mini, and i figured, why not some jdm style wheels? so here's my idea. I'm going to be running coils, and i'm pretty set on 16x7 wheel size, does anyone have any tire size suggestions or offset suggestions? these aren't for show, merely a different look. here's an idea of what i'm going for...

http://www.sportmaxwheel.com/sportmax_002.shtml

chime in, let me know what you think, good bad or ugly.

thanks.

not sure what's 'JDM' about those to be honest. They're not made in Japan, that's for sure.

Rota makes the J-Mag.

They all are made at the same places in the Philippines, China or Taiwan. I think there are better choices on a budget than the ones you posted, but if that's the look you want, the list is short for copies.

might also want to keep an eye out for wheels on clearance at the usual places like tirerack.com, tires.com, etc. I picked up some Enkei's for winter duty for a song and they look the part.

I would think they would look really good on a Mini.

And the J-Mags are nice too.....my buddy has the polished ones on his Civic and they are a nice wheel.

those are precisely the look i'm going for. thanks! i know some people are going to think the idea is a little cheesedick, and that there are many many other wheels to look at on a budget, but i think when all is said and done i'll like the outcome of the look i'm going for. anyways, i'll sit and see what else comes up, maybe get some more ideas, appreciate it man

JDM stuff belongs on a Honda, not a Euro car IMO... (I own a S2000 for 4 yrs and ive yet to define the true definition of "Jdm")

standard- actually the gunmetal ones you show do look pretty cool.
do you know the offset's that are available? i was thinking about
possibly getting some Works wheels (5 spoke multi-piece big lip)
but those wheels you show are kinda got that similar theme.

not sure about calling them "JDM"... they look to me more like
OLD SKOOL (panasport era) than anything else.

i understand that jdm stuff is made for, surprise surprise, the japanese domestic market, but that's just the point. after owning a vw for years and seeing everyone on the vortex put the same brands and same mods on their cars it just got old. jdm doesn't just belong on anything in particular, ive learned that people need to do what they think is cool, original, unique, etc. thats what i think i can do with a style like this.

from the list they show, it doesn't look like they have the 3.5" lip
for 16" size... only 15's. that Scion looks like it's got 17's or 18's in that
3.5" lip.

I think these http://www.sportmaxwheel.com/sportmax_002.shtml would look very nice on a mini. A nice update to the minilite style wheel. I vote for these. Though I'd prob. be unable to keep myself from going +1 to the 17 inch ones

yeah i don't quite get the reasoning behind that, but i don't want to go any smaller than a 16, so despite the fact that the 15x7 or x8 will have a larger lip it'd still be too small a diameter overall. with a 16x7 wheel and an et of 38 which tire size should i go with? considering i'll be lowered a little over an inch. anyone got pics of a 16 inch wheel with a 1.5inch lip lowered?

you can probably fit a 205/50/16 on those with 38mm. you might rub
though on the rear a little.
