225 tire on 18x7 wheel

Is there any problem installing a 225 wide tire on a 7" wide wheel?
I would like to install 225/35x18 tires on my GP wheels, which I believe are 18 x 7" ET52 wheels. I plan to use wheel spaces to solve any clearance issues.

From the Tire Rack website it appears that 215 is the widest tire suggested for a 7" wheel with 7.5" suggested for 225 tires. What are the negative affects of installing a 225 wide tire on a 7" wheel? I do plan to occasionally auto-x and track day the car.

If 225 is not a good choice for the 7" wheel, I plan to go with 215/35x18 tires.

im running 225/40's on 16x7's... fitment is all good.
toyo t1r's on konig heliums... keep in mind that the tire measurements are slightly different from the real deal. but with a 225 you shouldnt have any problems of fitment on the rim.

now rubbing? well, that's a whole different story

Thanks glnr13 on the 225/40 fitment.
Anyone using 225/35 on a 7" wide wheel. I am little concerned with the 225/35 on a 7" wheel due to the shorter sidewall than a 40 series.

I have 215 35 18 mounted on PIAA FR7's. I believe are 18x7.5 I don't see that going to a 225 (an extra 5mm from center would hurt but this depends on offset of wheels and perhaps varied build variences. I do know you may experience more sidewall "squirm" but if your wheel is 8" then I don't think you'l have an issue. On my BMW (325is coupe) I ran 225 35 18's on Hamann 8x8.5 and the tires stretched a bit. really nice look with very little sidewall squirm. But the wheels were vulnerable to curbs so watch out.

BMW 225 35 18

BTW, never had any issues with wheel damage and the ride was quite good. The tires are the Yoko Parada spec II. And this is in Michigan with terrible roads.
