wider tires on stock rims

Is it bad to run a wider tire on a stock "holie" rim? I am looking at 185-65-15

What tires are you thinking of? I need to be getting new tires in a few months.

I have the stock rims on my '05 MCC:

It has the same dimensions as the holies...5.5J x 15

Thanks!

There is an optimum tire size for every rim size. Just because others do it, doesn't mean it is correct. Look up your tire manufacturer and or wheel manufacturer. Either should have specs. Yuo will generally see three tire sizes suggested for each rim width with. Typically the middle tire size is highlighted by the manufacturer. Strtetching the sidewall out a bit will help perfornance. Installing a tire that is too wide for a given rim will result in lots of sidewall flex and reduce performance and tire wear.

I was looking at the 185-65-15 because it would give a little more performance out of my all season tires (the continental tire that come in this size are more perofrmance oriented). The OEM rec. is 175-65-15, so its not much of a chnage but enough to notice a slight difference and still be driveable in all weather types.

I went smaller in diameter, but wider, on my 15x5.5 stock wheels. For summer use I'm using 195/55-15 Toyo T1R's and I couldn't be happier with the size or the tire. Even though they are wider, they weigh the same as stock, and the shorter diameter gives me slightly better effective gearing for quicker acceleration.

That is one of the reasons I've been looking at running the 195-55-15 Flaken Ziex 512 for the summer, the whole quicker acceleration thing

thats a great tire, i have on 15x7" Konig rewinds 205/60/15's. that tire is great and holds up really well on the curves at higher speeds. Cheap assed tire, yet made in Japan! (vs mainland asia, ew)
