Info on off sets
I'm looking at getting some 16" Rota's but I want to know if I'm going to run into rubbing issues with a 40mm off set. I'm using H-sport springs and plain on getting a 205-50-16 tire. I hope there are some of you that have this set up and can give me real world knowledge. I don't want to trim and I'm running on 215/35/18 right now with no rubbing at all. Thanks for any help you can give.

I'll jump in since none else has...yet.
By way of comparison, I have 17" BBS with 38mm offset with 205/45/17 with zero rubbing at about 1" lower than stock ride height. The H-Sports are soft, especially up front...I also use a 5mm spacer up front making the offset 33mm. But the rear may become a problem before the front.
Now, a 38mm with a 5mm pacer works on the rear with a 205/40/17 - the above is a 45 aspect ratio.
Hpefully this helps.

Thanks for the response ! I'll take all the help I can get. I hope some people with 16" rims with the 40mm off set join in because that is what I'm looking at and I hope to learn from what they have found. 16" 205/50/16 or 215/45/16 with 40mm out there ? Before my 18's, I had for a VERY short time a set of 17's with 215/45/17's and they rubbed a little in the rear. Why the spacers ?

If you are looking at Rota 16" D2s with a 40 - they will not fit over the front calipers. The 17"s will fit. As far as rubbing w/ 1 1/2" drop the 40 should fit but I can't be 100% sure but judging what you have now - shoulden't be a problem.

Thanks, they're not D2s. I've seen and talked to a member that has the Rotas that I'm looking at and they fit his and after market brakes as well. I think what really comes into play now is what brand of tire I choose. Some brands have a very boxy design; others a more rounded shoulder. What I'm gathering from other post is that a 40mm off set will be fine with a 205/50/16 or a 215/45/16.

While researching the tires. there are some 205/50 that are just as wide as 215/45 if you are looking for width. Try to stay around 24.5 for diameter so the speedometer isn't too screwed up.

By any chance could you tell me what brands are the same width as a 215/45 ? That would be very helpfull. Thanks !
With some tires you can go to a 38. It's strange, with the D2s Wilwoods fit perfectly ( the casting on the OE caliper is just a little big )

Besides a a Mini S, we have a Scion XB. The first choice was a 225/40 which is a big tire for a 16 x 7" rim, it will work. The way to figure the tire is look at the diameter first, every manufacturer has something different. Width varies quite a bit. The XB ended up with Hankook 205/50 K106s the least expensive high performance tire you can buy ( they are much, much, better than expected, wet, dry & snow ). These tires, real footprint, are 3/4" wider than the Falcon 215/40 17s on the Mini.
I wish I had more info for you....... What I did was look at "D", find the widest tire that would fit on a 7" rim, then compare. Wide does not mean best but it will give you a baseline to fit the rim. There are a ton of good tires for a 16" rim.
