03 MCS - Non-Dealer Brake Replacement?

I wondered if I should have any concerns about having my mechanic replace my 03 Cooper S brake pads, etc. The yellow warning display has come on and the Mini dealership quoted me a price of $450 per axle for brakes. A bit overpriced by my standards. I have just over 35,000 miles on it but I'm out of my 3 year service warranty period.

My mechanic is confident he can do it and he's been repairing all my cars for the last 10 years. (SAAB, HONDA, MAZDA, etc)

Is there any reason why I should have the dealership do it and not him?

Thanks,
Rob C

No problem, let him do it if you don't want to.
It is easy enough most people can do it themselves, I did.

No problem as long as he knows the rear piston turns in.
