Tire Pressure

Hey everyone!

I was wondering... my dad just got new rims for his 2002 BMW Z3 2.5I.
He kept the old tires, because they were BRAND NEW. They only had 500 miles on them. Do we inflate them to the reccomended pressure of the tire?... or do we inflate them to the reccommended pressure of the car...(the pressure rating on the door sill of the car...) ?????

any help is appricated!

p.s.: The tires are Z rated Kumhos, and they are made for this car... (don't know if that helps.)

Does the tire state its recommended pressure or the maximum? If the tires are made for that particular car, I would go with what the sticker on the car says. It takes into account the weight and suspension characteristics of the car, which the tire manufacturer wouldn't know.

it was just the reccommended pressure of the tire, but the maximum pressure was higher than bmw's rating... so we decided to inflate to the manufactures rating, because (duhhh... its the manufactures rating) and the tires can handle it. Cool.

thanks a lot everybody!

As I stated above, BMWs recommendation takes into consideration THAT car's suspension habits and weight. SO why would you disregard it? A few pounds, however, MAY not make much difference.

athough, when i whent from 36 front 32 rear to 36 all around, the mini started to rotate when i lifted. So a few pounds can make a huge difference (not to mention the dreaded sport of nascar and their half pound changes durring a race). Food for thought.
