16" S-Winder weight revealed!

I'm putting some Avon tech RA 215/40r16s on a set of S-winders and I made SURE I had a scale available to weigh the rims since nobody seemed to know how much they weigh.

well - here is the definitive answer! (and it's pretty good!)

and for the curious -

215/40r16 - 22 3/4" tall vs stock 195/55r16 - 24 1/8" tall. I wonder what that'll do to the gearing.

S-Winder weight revealed

Well, the engine speed at any given road speed will increase by the ratio of the OEM tire diameter divided by the new tire diameter.

Smaller than stock outer tire diameter will mean lowered gearing but if your gearing is not tall then you get to use more of 2nd gear and even consider 3rd if you can drive fast enough. This is not bad.

Can you re-weigh the whole wheel- tire and rim and see what you get.
215/40-16 Avon Tech Ra should weigh ? pounds - it's not even listed at tirerack in that size!
16.625 lbs for the rim plus ?pounds for the tire =? pounds estimated.

WOW! It did say low stock/closeout when I ordered from there. I guess I got the last 4.

I'll weigh them tomorrow and see what I get. Gotta be sure to subtract 40lbs of air though!

Minihune, you gonna be at Aloha Stadium easter sunday? I plan on getting there early and trying to be a walk-on. I couldn't pre-register online since I haven't autocrossed before. Hopefully, since it is Easter I'll have a chance of getting to race. My MINI will be eligible even if I don't get signed up because Randy is going to run it (GS of course). oh yea, got a spare helmet?

This shows them at 17.4 lbs:

No way to know which scale is more accurate, but it at least confirms they are around the 17 lb range and a decent choice for a factory wheel for the track.

We know that the scale used by motormouth is accurate and the picture of the reading is posted above. Not sure why the weight listed on MINI2.com is 17.4 but it used to be 22 lbs before the S-Winder was weighed and this post was made.

Find the same rim and weigh it yourself. See what you get.

I'm not up for the "challenge" of finding a random wheel just to weigh it. Just posting that contradictory information is listed on the other site. Maybe the moon was closer to the earth during the weighing or it was done on one of the poles resulting in the discrepancy.
