How much to powdercoat wheels?

That's basically all I want to know- how much would it be to powdercoat a set of rims?

I paid $75 per wheel for color, plus $15 per wheel for clearcoat.

Two things I've been telling everyone:

1. If you get your wheels powdercoated they have to be done all in one color, you can't do just the spokes and keep a polished lip. You could have the powdercoat removed from the lip and get it repolished, I suppose.

2. Do not powdercoat the inner diameter of the center hub hole on the wheel. On hub-centric wheels like my Panasports, the build up of the powder makes the hole too small to fit on the hub.

Good luck.

bee1000n,

I assume that you had yours done in the San Diego area. Do you have a name and phone number. I'd like to call them. I figure UPS would not be that much to ship them down & back

I would prefer to find someone the the San Francisco bay area or northbay if possible.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

The company was RW Little in San Diego. I sent you a PM with some more info. I imagine you'll be able to find a powdercoater close to you, though.

A fair price in the Los Angeles area for one coat would be between $50 and $100 per wheel . The company I used charged $90 per wheel and as mine were a two coat process , black chrome, they were $ 180 per and $50 for the lip polish. Powder coat is the only way to go for wheels expecially in Ct. ( New London native ) . Maby get in touch with Partsman here on NAM . He is very knowledgable with regards to Mini services and works in the New London area.

You could possibley go after them with a dremel or some other kind of grinder to get them a bit smoother. The coating will help fill the ridges as well.

Randy: I missed your car in LV (I wasn't there, unfortunately) but that little photo just oozes interesting stuff!! The JS exit scoop on the bonnet and the wheel vents on the little 1/4 panel--woohoo. I love the look. And those M7 COs are keeping those wheels nice and looowwww...but not slammed.
What a great look!

Thanks for the nice words. Those are a couple of items in the R&D phase but are close to being available. The coil overs can go lower but that heigth works great for everyday driving and the canyons.

To be honest, I'm running about the same height, within 1/4", and really like both the look and the balance. No problems with bottoming or bumpstops, and still the occasional grind over speed bumps and driveways--the perfect compromise for me.
cheers,

if more prep work is required it could go up to $150+.

a little far for you, but I know of a little shop in South NJ that does great work....if you're interested.

There IS a way to mask the wheel if you're doing powder coat. Check out this write up:

Well I'll be! Where were you last year when I was dealing with this? I originally wanted to just make my spokes black and keep the machined lip, but was told it was impossible and decided to go bronze. I'm happy with the bronze, though. I feel like it complements the PW without standing out too much. Thanks for the helpful link.

Contact Wheels America. I had some BBS's done by them. Centers painted to match body color and outer rim section polished. they also fixed the curb rash. Price was very reasonable and turn around time was incredible. Considering the complexity of the job I had done the $100 a wheel I paid was well worth it. Besides paint they also powder coat and know how to mask so hub's are not effected.
