How long did your tires last?

I'm currently running the All-season 17 inch runflats that came with my Web Spokes. I've noticed that the fronts are wearing quickly. I'm already up to 14K. It looks like I might be shopping for new tires soon. Yet, my rears are still rather fresh.

I was going to rotate them, but I was told that the run flats shouldn't be rotated this from one dealership as well as another mini owner that had issues after they rotated theirs.

Has anyone gone out and just bought 2 new ones and just kept the rears or should I just go new all the way around? I just don't like the idea of tossing or wasting some tires with still a lot of meat left.

It has been my experience that the fronts wear much quicker than the rears. I reccommend just replacing the fronts.

I had Dunlop R/F 205 45 17s that had 23k on them and put a set of BFGoodrich g FORCE sport non R/F on yesterday. There was still a lot of tread left but they were getting so noisey and so hard riding. The new tires are great, quiet, great ride and great handling. I got a Conti Comfort Kit from the Tire Rack in case of a flat and I also have a doughnut spare for long trips. I should have gotten rid of the R/Fs a long time ago.

Original front runflats: 20K miles

Original rear runflats: 40K miles

Replacement front runflats: 20K miles

(Never rotated tires.)

Switched to non-runflats at 40K and now rotate every 5K miles.

Sounds like that might be what I am doing then. I'm going to get some good non-RF's. Yeah, running mis-match doesn't excite me, but also dumping good tires and spending another $300 just doesn't do it for me.

I'll check around for what everyone seems to like for non-rf's

RF's can be rotated. the dealership that sold me my car did the first rotation...

or, to save money and if you arent afraid to get your hands dirty, do it yourself.

Always rotate tires at 3-5k intervals. You get better handling longer when tread on all 4 tires wear evenly. While it costs more to buy 4 tires at once, it doesn't ultimately cost any more because your wearing out just as many tires in the long run.

Many owners get about 15,000 to 22,000 on the original runflats or more.
Those that don't rotate will wear out the fronts in about 20,000 if they do mixed driving.

Rotating tires would be best but not all owners do it. Some prefer not to rotate and end up changing only the fronts out. If you do that put the rears on the fronts and the better tread new tires on the rears for more hydroplaning resistance in the wet. Doesn't matter where the good tread is in the dry most of the time.

Runflats can be mixed with non runflats if needed just keep the same tire type on the same axle. Keeping the same sized tire is best but some small change in tire sizes is possible. Just be careful.

So use your worn front tires a little more and then decide to buy two new runflats- see tirerack.com and talk to Alex or buy four new nonrunflats in 205/45-17 or 214/45-17. Either is OK and better ride quality than runflats.

Tire Wear - Pirelli RF

My JCW had 11K on it when I switched the Pirelli Euforia RFs to nonRFs. The fronts were more than half gone and the rears around one-quarter worn. But I should say how I use the car - I live in the mountains in SoCal and "exercise" the car "vigorously" on the local roads daily.
I scored a really cheap set of S-lites and decided to try nonRF, so I bought a set of Kumhos (Ecsta AST) which I have used for track use and on BMW 3s. The difference with the nonRF are amazing in ride, road noise and grip. Straight line stability was better with the Pirellis, but the difference is small.
BTW, a techie friend of mine instrumented his car with an accelerometer and found the ampitude of vibrations from the suspension were twice as large with the RFs than nonRF! So maybe there's proof!

I have just put on my 6th set of tires at 116k miles - that is 23-24k per set of tires. I have been using Toyo Proxes 4 215/40-17" - great tires at a great price.

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to get a set of non-Rf's roll up the ones from the rear to the front, and put the new ones to the rear.

I'll be doing this in the next week or so. I also live in Socal and like giving Jersome some mixed PE on the way to and from work.

30k on the good year all season run flats. 6 tires total bought some with 3k miles on them from the nam market place and replaced my fronts at about 18k... rotated them but not enough.

28,000 on orginal RF. One rotation front to rear. Current non RF look like they are going to be about the same with one rotation.

If you use a floor jack (not the compact jack that comes with the car) and place it under the front jack point you can lift both tires on one side of the car very easily. You swap front to back and do the same for the other side. So with to lifts one on each side you can do the entire tire rotation. No spare needed.

You can buy a floor jack for about $100 at checkers or Pep Boys or any autoshop.

You can chalk the tires and place a stand under the side you are raising for extra safety.

Over 45,000 miles on original Goodyear Run-Flats, with intermittant rotation. They are just about toast, however
