14,000 miles, 2.5 months, countless lifetime memories

Two days ago I returned from a cross country road trip with my 2006 MCS. I spent most nights camping out, so the Mini became an RV as well as a sporty hatchback. There's no way I could recount all the events from the trip here, nor post all my pictures (I took over 2,400). However, if anyone is curious for pictures of particular places, has any questions, or just wants some more details about something, feel free to ask.

I traveled through Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Kentucky.

I drove into LA, and from there to Death Valley, then Yosemite, then San Fransisco, then up the PCH for the most part.

Amazing pictures indeed. I wish I would have the guts to plan a road trip like this.

I drove into Dallas on I-30, took I-20 to I-10, then drove up through El Paso. I went to a couple state parks in south west Texas, but most of my time in Texas was spent trying to get further west (no offense to Texas, I just wanted to get to the southwest).

there is so much country to see, where did you begin when planning/deciding where to go?

Understandable - getting across this state takes a while. Unfortunately, the route through I-30 isn't that great. I love Dallas, but it isn't too scenic.

I knew I wanted to explore the southwest and the Pacific northwest and just see more of the western half of the country. I live in Virginia and had been over the Mississippi only twice, both times flying to CA. For the trip I made a list of places that I really wanted to see, bought a bunch of maps, then hit the road. I usually didn't know where I would be camping until the night before or the day of. It was a very spur of the moment, follow your nose kind of trip.

Just a little out of the way I think.

I did think about Alaska, until I looked up how many more miles I'd have to drive.

I was going to ask the same question. Then I find a few posts down you're from Virginia Beach. Small world!

Great pics thus far. I've always wanted to just get in the car and go, but owning our own small business sort of blows that thought.

Wow! that's my dream! I've wanted to just take off across the USA for about 10 years now. The ultimate would be to leave and go until I got ready to come back home... probably 6-12 months or so. BUT, since I don't have that kinda time (yet), I won't be doing that. I might be able to pull of 1 month, but the boss might have a heart attack when I told him
Great pics! Way to live spontaneously!

(i think this is my first post... i must be inspired)
