This is actually the first trailer hitch option that I have ever considered buying. I like the fact that it's stealth and looks easy enough to use. Up untill now there were no options for my convirtible to carry a couple of bikes. I never considered drilling holes in my bumper for the MiniFini sport link to be an option. I will be getting this in time for summer so I can drag my bikes to the beach for a day of riding.

Anybody have this yet? I'm curious how it holds up. I agree goaljnky, the fact that it's stealth and no holes in the bumper make it really appealing. But then again, i have heard that people with the mini fini enjoy making people think that those brackets are really machine gun turrets or smoke screen ports. Could be fun. So does anyone know how snug a thule/yakima rack is on one of these? And if it rocks/sways much?

FYI, the holes just go through the easily-replaced fake grill pieces in the rear
bumper cover, not through the bumper cover itself.

I like this hitch, though, and almost wish I had waited now instead of buying
the MINI FINI.

So you can't get it if you have an 02-04 since it has the reverse light there or an 05-06 with the rear fog then?

I was talking about the MINI FINI hitch. It doesn't use the lower central light
cut-out. This new hitch does and, I think, you just remove that light or grill
when using the hitch. I believe it (the light or grill) just snaps in and out.

Model 1001 – 02-06 Mini Cooper (Hatch or Convt with backup/rear fog light)
Model 1002 – 02-06 Mini Cooper S (Hatch or Convt with backup/rear fog light)

This is exactly what I have been looking for, and I even tried to have one custom made like this. I just ordered one, after Pete sent me the link. I will post a review of it on my weblog after I get it.

THANKS!

I agree! This is exactly what i'm looking for too. Was there a discount for NAM members? Whoa, didn't notice this thread was just started yesterday...any idea how long they've been selling these hitches? As for the mini fini, they do have to drill through the bumper on the MC, the MCS they just cut through the little grill part.

Not unless you have an MC. Than you have to cut out holes in the bumper cover since there are no lower grills.

That would be so elegant if the parts snapped back into place over the hitch! I just wrote and asked them about this. I'll post their response when I get it.

Really glad to see this company. Considering that MINI FINI promised so much but didn't deliver, I like the implementation and costs that I'm seeing. The MINI FINI product were nicely manufactured parts--I have the bike rack and tow link, but I would get one of these in a heartbeat for my next MINI.

The Stealth feature, and the fact it uses a hitch receiver making it compatible with any aftermarket cargo carrier or option that fits in such a receiver makes it so much more MINI like--that is--flexible and expandable where as the MINI FINI unit is completely proprietary.

Good job!

Now if only I could get the trailer with white holies or 5 stars!

Hmm, if I read the site correctly, it seems I can still buy the Miniature Trailer even though I have the MINI FINI tow link--since it just hooks up to a ball hitch?

I've got some clearance news for anyone that's interested in this:

[SIZE=2]"My measurements tell me that if you have an 02 through 06 MC or an 02-04 MCS you will need at least 6" of length from the hole for the pin to the up portion of the arm."

"If you have an 05-06 MCS you only need about 4"."

I'll post anything else I hear about this option.

UPS delivered mine today. Looks to be well made. Total wt on the box was 21lbs so I suspect the unit weighs 20. I have to say that the level of sevice so far has been very good. Brent sent me several emails to let me know when it would be shipping as well as confirming my car year and model. He also sent very well detailed instructions on both the hitch and the trailer lighting adapter.

If I can just get over the flu, maybe I can get it installed and tested along with a pile of other mods that are getting depressing.

I'm still puzzled about how it works if you have a light back there. Their site has no pics and nobody here is reporting that it is a simple matter of "snapping" the light out and back in. I doubt the light was designed to do that repetitively and wonder how soon before something on it broke.

I could be interested, but certainly not as a guinea pig. Hope to see some more feedback.

theres nothing behind the light, its dead space.

the light has 2 clips, you reach underneath, push them in and slide it out. it takes about 5 seconds to do.
